Debate

Northern Ireland Troubles Bill

Contribution

It is true that the Bill was not perfect when I wrote my speech for its Second Reading back in November 2025. I am grateful for the conversations that the Select Committee and I have had with the previous Secretary of State, my right hon. Friend the Member for Leeds South, and the current Secretary of State and his Ministers, which has allowed us to put together amendments that strengthen the Bill and ensure that it delivers the justice and the answers that families—and I mean all the families—deserve. I therefore welcome the Government amendments today, particularly those that have been developed through engagement with veterans’ groups and organisations such as WAVE—Widows Against Violence Empower—which is based in Belfast and led by the excellent Sandra Peake, who was here just last week.
