Northern Ireland Troubles BillContribution
That legislation was not enacted. That architecture was not built by the last Government. We see the consequences of the practical implications when the two Governments are not on the same page and in lockstep. We see them in the current inquiry into Omagh. That makes clear what happens when the Governments do not act jointly, without the intricate and carefully designed terms of reference that the families deserve. Many of us are watching the inquiry in some distress, and noting the apparent missed opportunities to prevent that horrific bomb and the toll that it is taking on families. The SDLP is certainly not here to say that Irish Governments, past or present, have got everything right on legacy, but we are here to highlight the ludicrous hypocrisy of those who are decrying and, in many cases, inventing a lack of disclosure from Dublin while fighting tooth and nail to suppress every bit of information they can from this Government.
