Church Appointments (Repeal of Discriminatory Provision) Bill

Contribution

Yes, I agree with the hon. Gentleman that the Church of England is strengthened by bringing in more voices. It often does that already through the use of ecumenical canons in some cathedrals. The Bill is a step forward that will ensure that the Church brings in those perspectives, which will strengthen its hand in the future and bring our communities together in the way that it does so well. I thank the Minister for bringing this legislation to the House. It is an important step forward. I wish the Prime Minister well—from an Anglican to a Catholic—as he takes forward the important constitutional role of advising the monarch on the future leaders of the Church of England.
