Yorkhill Fire Station

Contribution

Nearly 1,000 people have signed this petition online or by pen calling for Yorkhill fire station to be saved from closure by the Scottish Government. The local expertise of firefighters at neighbourhood stations such as Yorkhill ensures that response times are fast and public safety is prioritised. The loss of this vital local service raises concerns that public safety will be further put at risk, with longer response times after almost two decades of cuts to public services. The petition states: “The petitioners therefore request that the House of Commons urges the Government to make representations to the Scottish Government regarding the importance of maintaining adequate fire and rescue provision for residents in Yorkhill and surrounding areas, and to raise concerns about the proposed closure of Yorkhill fire station.” Following is the full text of the petition: [The petition of residents of the United Kingdom, Declares that the proposed closure of Yorkhill Fire Station by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service risks weakening fire and emergency response capacity in Glasgow, increasing response times, and placing additional strain on neighbouring stations; and further declares that local residents rely on Yorkhill Fire Station as a vital part of community safety infrastructure and strongly oppose its closure. The petitioners therefore request that the House of Commons urges the Government to make representations to the Scottish Government regarding the importance of maintaining adequate fire and rescue provision for residents in Yorkhill and surrounding areas, and to raise concerns about the proposed closure of Yorkhill Fire Station. And the petitioners remain, etc.] [P003253]
