Community Transport Services: Minibus Drivers

Contribution

I commend the hon. Gentleman for bringing forward this incredibly important issue. It is the same in my constituency of Strangford; local independent bus companies provide a lifeline for the vulnerable, elderly and schoolchildren, yet the operators are facing incredible pressures, from rising fuel costs to regulatory burdens and an acute shortage of qualified D1 licensed drivers. If we are to prevent rural communities from being cut off, does the hon. Gentleman agree that the Government must step in with targeted support to assist our local operators with driver recruitment, training and operational funding across the UK?
