Fundamental British values, as presently defined, are democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs. There are two problems with this formulation. First, it is focused on respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs, which, while worthwhile in itself, of course, leaves out other values, some of which are fundamental to our society.
