Commissioners will be accountable to the mayor for their performance, and the mayor will need to answer to the combined authority or the combined county authority, the overview and scrutiny committee, and ultimately to the public for their performance and conduct. To ensure further accountability, the relevant overview and scrutiny committee will be able to recommend to the combined authority or the combined county authority that the commissioner be removed from their post. The combined authority or combined county authority will then be able to vote for their removal if they see that as appropriate.
