English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill

Contribution

Look at how culture has transformed these cities and, most importantly, their subregions, including rural communities. The creative industries, culture and heritage continue to transform Liverpool and Manchester, not only economically but in terms of image and the built environment. Consider the waterfront of Liverpool and its proud heritage, social inclusion and, as my noble friend has said, social and community cohesion. They generate jobs but also contribute significantly to health, well-being, self-image and pride in place. As we know, the creative industries generated at least £123 billion for UK GVA in 2024. There are 2.4 million creative industries jobs in the UK—7% of total employment.
