The second aspect, to come back to the point I touched on and foreshadowed earlier, is the use of the specific phrase “commit suicide”. It is of course true that perceptions and societal assumptions have moved on since the 1961 Act. It may well be that it would be reasonable to use a slightly different form of words to the specifics in my amendment in order to avoid any impression that we consider suicide as such to be a crime.
