All the above seek to remove the criminalisation of words that can, intentionally or otherwise, cause distress to an individual. For centuries, schoolchildren in our country were common-sensically taught in the playground that, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me”. Well, of course some words did hurt to some degree, but through that saying, we all learned to be phlegmatic and move on in life, regardless of what other people had to say.
