In 2016 I was on a train coming into Euston station on my way to your Lordships’ House. The train was very crowded and a woman started to say very loudly, “People like you shouldn’t be allowed on trains until we’ve got to work” and “Are people like you allowed out?” Everyone else looked down to the ground and pretended that they had not heard. I have learned not to respond to nonsense like this, no matter how unpleasant it is. As we got off the train, she rushed past me and the assistant putting down the ramp, still shouting about me. She stopped dead in front of me, blocking my exit from the platform. Everyone else moved away to every other turnstile, but there was only one that I could use and she was right in my way. She then shouted directly at me again, using very abusive and insulting terms, and coming right up to my face. She started dancing around my chair and then she tried to kick me, telling me to get the hell out of her life. I had not said a word at this point. Luckily, her aim was not very good and she hit the chair, not me, and I suspect she rather hurt herself in doing that. Kicking steel is not a good thing to do.
