There has emerged what can only be described as two-tier policing of these offences. Alaa Abd el-Fattah was welcomed with open arms into this country by the Lord Chancellor, despite having posted on Twitter that he hated white people and that he wanted Jews killed. He was not arrested for his tweets. Yet, Graham Linehan was met at Heathrow Airport by five armed police officers and arrested for tweets that were apparently “transphobic”. If this does not demonstrate the unequal application of these speech laws, then I really do not know what will.
