Any democratic society has to undergo a delicate balancing act when it comes to the permissibility of speech. On the one hand, freedom of speech is a fundamental right that underpins the entire basis of a free society. On the other hand, in a civilised society there is speech that we simply cannot accept, such as direct incitements to violence, promotion of terroristic behaviour and the like. The question then becomes: where do we draw the line? It is my firm belief that, wherever we might have placed this imaginary line in the past, it has now crept so far in one direction that we are faced with a state of affairs that must be now subject to some form of correctional medicine.
