Finance (No. 2) Bill

Contribution

I extend my thanks to hon. Members for their thoughtful contributions during this session in particular, which I appreciate has been a topic of discussion in public and in this place over a number of months. As I have said, the Government have been listening carefully to feedback from the farming community, family businesses and their representatives. The Government are proud to represent the national interest, with strong representation for rural, semi-rural and urban constituencies. It is a fantastic vote of confidence in our Prime Minister and in this Government that there are pretty much as many Labour MPs who represent rural constituencies as there are Conservative MPs in total. The Government are going further to protect more farms and businesses while maintaining the core principle that more valuable agricultural and business assets should not receive unlimited relief. That is why we have tabled an amendment that will increase the allowance for the 100% rate of relief from £1 million to £2.5 million.
