Debate

Public Baths and Lidos

Contribution

I beg to move, That this House has considered the impact of public baths and lidos on local communities. It is a pleasure to speak in a debate that I think should be called in Hansard, “For the Love of Lidos”. It is a delight to open this debate on the value of our public baths and lidos. It could not be timelier, as Peterborough lido is set to open for its 2026 season this coming weekend. I am delighted to see so many colleagues. That shows the love of lidos in our communities, how important they are and how much interest they generate around the entire country—not just in my constituency. The UK stock of public outdoor pools represents deep cultural heritage, serving our communities for over a century and generating health, happiness and pride in our places.
