There are several benefits of LGPS investment—as well as that of other major pension schemes—in social housing: an increased supply of affordable housing and improved community well-being, housing construction stimulating local economies through job creation and improving housing stock, and social housing projects generating stable inflation-linked returns suitable for pension funds.
