Debate
Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) BillContribution
Life and death decisions are not currently taken, as I understand it, by Section 9(4) deputy High Court judges or designated family judges under what is called a Section 9(1) ticket. Will there be any additional budget to pay designated family judges when they sit as deputy High Court judges to hear these cases? Currently, they are not paid for that. There may be further implications for the Ministry of Justice’s budget because, if you pay those judges to do Section 9(1) work in this scenario, they will want it for all of the work that they do under Section 9(1). The impact assessment has been done on the basis of the costs of the panel, as I said.
