This amendment does not block the Bill or frustrate government policy. It simply says this: let us wait for the courts to speak before we switch on provisions that would extinguish British Indian Ocean Territory status for most of the archipelago, alter nationality law, and give effect to an irreversible transfer of sovereignty. That is not obstruction but prudence, in my view.
