As the statement by the Chagos Refugees Group, delivered by its chair Olivier Bancoult last month, demonstrates, while there are different views among Chagossians, there is strong support for the treaty from a significant number in that community. It is important to respect the many different views within the Chagossian community, including groups that welcome the deal. Claims that all Chagossians are opposed to the treaty are failing to respect the differing views of this diverse community.
