Diego Garcia Military Base and British Indian Ocean Territory Bill

Contribution

I have not spoken to Amendment 44, tabled by the noble Lord, Lord Callanan, which seeks to prevent the UK notifying Mauritius of the location of sensitive defence equipment before maintenance and upgrades. This is inconsistent with the treaty, which provides that the UK shall have rights of access for maintenance and upgrades of equipment on islands of the Chagos Archipelago beyond Diego Garcia following notification to Mauritius, after advising Mauritius of the location of such equipment.
