I hope that this is a helpful explanation of the Government’s position. I re-emphasise that we want to continue the discussion. I cannot promise the noble and learned Lord, Lord Thomas, that it will be with my sleeves rolled up and late at night, but, in the meantime, I urge the noble and learned Lords, Lord Burnett and Lord Thomas, not to press their amendments.
