I, like so many others from charities, royal societies, and disabled and domestic abuse campaigns, remain worried about the limited mechanisms in the Bill to spot anything but the most overt, direct coercion. We have already heard some brilliant speeches explaining the difficulties there. However, a patient who has been encouraged is even more of a threat to our assuredness that assisted death is a choice made freely and autonomously. I therefore hope that the noble and learned Lord, Lord Falconer, will enthusiastically support my attempt to strengthen the language in the Bill that emphasises this autonomy.
