Ms Carr spoke of people dying on corridors because they do not get drugs because NICE has not approved them, and because there is not the right support or funding of palliative care. She said that that is suffering and coercion. None of these situations is provided for in the Bill. Very subtle pressures, negative comments about what the future holds, comments about the cost of care et cetera, can work upon a person’s mind until they begin to lose the ability to think clearly about their situation and feel that they are a burden to others. That is one of the most common reasons for seeking assisted death in other countries.
