These amendments provide for independent decision-making—uninfluenced, not encouraged, and not pressurised to make a decision, whether that pressure comes from individuals or from an organisation or an institution. This is particularly important as the Bill does not contain any provision requiring the doctor who may be involved in an end-of-life decision, were the Bill to become law, to ask the person seeking to end their own life why they wish to do so or what pressures they have been subjected to.
