Debate

Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill

Amendment 229, tabled by the noble Lord, Lord Goodman, would mean that before making a declaration—that is, before the patient made his or her first declaration—she or he should have an interview with a social worker who has to be satisfied that they are not operating under external pressure. I respect the reason why that has been put in, but it does not seem necessary when you have two doctors on the panel, one of whom is a social worker.
