I will move on briefly. I apologise that I did not intervene on the discussion about consent refusal versus seeking an assisted death, but they really are fundamentally different. A patient who is seriously ill and having some intervention without which they would already have died is consenting every time they have an intervention to carry on having it. If they withdraw their consent and you carry on imposing that treatment, that is tort or assault if they have the capacity to withhold that consent. If they do not have the capacity to consent because they have a delirium or whatever, you must go through the best interest decision- making processes, as outlined very clearly in the Mental Capacity Act.
