The other problem among these groups is misunderstanding. People think that palliative care shortens life. One in five people in ethnic minority groups think that palliative care shortens your life. They do not understand that good palliative care results in a better quality of life; it certainly does not shorten your life and you may live for a fair bit longer, because we discover problems that have been pulling you down. That figure drops to one in 20 in the white population.
