Finally, Amendment 171A addresses a form of vulnerability that is too often invisible in legislation: the cultural, religious and sex-based pressures that can shape a woman’s decision-making long before she enters a consulting room. The evidence is sobering. Naz Shah MP told the Commons Committee that she was coerced into marriage at 15—not through overt force but through the “power of influence” from those she trusted.
