Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill

We are tying this requirement not merely to activity but to measured progress in the reduction of crime. Collaboration with our European partners is, as a result, rigorously monitored for its effectiveness in achieving the stated objectives of the Bill: to disrupt criminal networks and secure our borders. I am afraid that at this stage we on these Benches cannot support Amendments 1 and 2. Amendment 1 seeks to remove the requirement for the Border Security Commander to be a civil servant.
