The Crown Prosecution Service barrister gave the parents a copy of their victim statement, highlighted with everything they could not say. They went out of the courtroom to alter their statement. This was a young couple with a younger child. What happened to Violet-Grace, and the impact on her mother’s life, was just horrendous. The parents went into that court and were made to feel like the criminals. They felt like the defendants. They felt that they were doing wrong. They were asking, “What can we say? What can we not say?”
