Victims and Courts Bill

Contribution

If a quarter of women are raped or sexually assaulted most of the time by men they know, this means that women we know are being raped by men we know. Some of these rapes will result in pregnancy. Until we start to believe that and accept that, nothing will change. Women will continue to live in fear of not being believed, so scared that instead of being able to speak up they hide their trauma in plain sight. That has to stop now and we all have a role to play, but it starts with politicians no longer failing women by, at best, not using their power to protect them, or, at worst, seeking to weaponise their trauma.
