Victims and Courts BillContribution
In recent weeks, I met with Karen Garland from the Marie Collins Foundation, who has been supporting a lady called Lauren who lodged an application in time to the Government for the scheme, only to be barred from making use of it because the CPS made a mistake about the time she had to further appeal it. So on a purely technical basis, she was prevented from lodging a valid appeal and there was no way for her to get that looked at. There was an attempt to ask the sentencing judge to look at it again but, with respect to that sentencing judge, asking the same judge who had passed the sentence to look at that sentence again is not what the ULS is intended to achieve.
