Victims and Courts BillContribution
The Minister talked about certainty in sentencing, but victims have to sit and wait knowing that the criminal can appeal at any time—in exceptional circumstances, criminals can appeal years later—so there is no certainty in the existing system. We want to even that out for the public. We should not forget that behind every case is a family who have been through unimaginable pain. The Minister must be sympathetic to our measured and proportionate proposals, and we should vote them through tonight.
