That this House marks the 150th anniversary of the Cruelty to Animals Act 1876 gaining Royal Assent; notes that this was the first UK legislation to regulate animal experimentation; reaffirms its commitment to the prohibition of testing on animals for cosmetics and to the ultimate phase-out of all animal testing for all chemicals, ingredients in consumer products and medicines, as well as uses of animals in scientific experimentation; recognises the need to bring science into the 21st century and ensure that no tests on animals occur when alternative approaches exists; acknowledges the opportunities that exist in non-animal methods; and understands the possibilities for British scientists to become world-leaders in this field.
