75TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BATTLE OF MONTE CASSINO

Motion Text

That this House marks the 75th anniversary of the Battle for Rome - the battle of Monte Cassino; notes that it was the troops of the Irish Brigades including the 1st Royal Irish Fusiliers, 6th Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers and the 2nd London Irish Rifles who were the vanguard of this assault which was pivotal in the Italian battles and war effort as a whole; and remembers with honour and great pride all of those from Northern Ireland and the Republic of lreland who were not conscripted but who chose to fight in the battle for Europe and in the name and service of the King for freedom and democracy.
