AIRPORT PASSENGER DUTY

Motion Text

That this House notes air passenger duty (APD) has increased by over 650 per cent for economy long haul flights and by 160 per cent for economy short haul flights since its introduction in 1994; further notes that APD has a detrimental impact on the retention of routes and creation of new routes from UK airports, limits choice for consumers and UK businesses, and acts as a barrier to trade; and calls on the Chancellor of the Exchequer to cut APD by at least 50 per cent to provide support for the UK economy at a national and regional levels.
