Motion Text

That this House welcomes the enactment of the Antarctic protocol to protect land and sea south of 60 degrees; applauds the effort of Her Majesty's Government and others to persuade the Japanese Government to ratify the protocol thus bringing it into force; calls for the establishment of a permanent secretariat without delay; demands urgent action to conserve fish stocks and thus the eco systems of the Southern Ocean area; and further recognises that without this action species such as the wandering albatross will face extinction.
