ARTS COUNCIL FOR WALES

Motion Text

That this House believes that it is important to maintain the arms-length principle in Government funding of the Arts; notes that under the Government of Wales Act the National Assembly for Wales has no powers to take functions away from Royal Charter bodies such as the Arts Council of Wales; congratulates the National Assembly for Wales on its policy of making Welsh quangos directly accountable to the Assembly; but hopes that the Arts Council for Wales will remain independent and retain its responsibility for grant-giving and determining strategy for the arts in Wales.
