AVAILABILITY OF ALZHEIMER'S DRUGS

Motion Text

That this House disapproves of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence's ruling that Alzheimer's drug treatments should only be prescribed for those in the moderate stages of the disease; notes that this ruling means that the NHS can refuse drug treatments to those in the early and later stages of the disease in England and Wales; further notes that such treatment has proved clinically effective in stabilising the symptoms of Alzheimer's and allowing the individual to retain their independence; recognises the benefits of early treatment of the disease, particularly in reducing the demands on carers; and calls on the Government to ensure that all those suffering from Alzheimer's disease are able to receive drug treatment on the NHS.
