COMPOSITION AND WORK OF EQUALITY COMMISSION IN NORTHERN IRELAND

Motion Text

That this House notes the recent decision by Her Majesty's Government to appoint new commissioners to the Equality Commission including a former Director General of the State Broadcaster in the Irish Republic to lead the Commission; calls upon the Government to address the imbalance in the Commission's composition whereby no-one from the community that is politically represented by the Democratic Unionist Party has been appointed; and demands that the new Commission addresses the significant under-representation of the Protestant community in recruitment to much of the the public sector in Northern Ireland including the general service grades of the Civil Service, the Housing Executive, the Child Support Agency and the Royal Mail.
