CONDUCT OF THE HOME SECRETARY AND IMMIGRATION POLICY

Motion Text

That this House notes that large-scale primary immigration into this country has ceased, that the numbers seeking asylum in Britain are in decline and that new European border controls will make it harder, not easier, for those who wish to gain residence and working rights in the EU countries, including Britain; believes that the decision announced by the Home Secretary to introduce new harsher immigration legislation in the Autumn is motivated by purely electoral considerations aiming at playing the 'racist card' to distract attention from failing economic policies and to win votes on a racist basis in local elections this year and in the run-up to the next General Election; and calls on the Government to abandon the proposed new Bill.
