CONDUCT OF THE HON. MEMBER FOR WELWYN HATFIELD

Motion Text

That this House deplores the comments of the honourable Member for Welwyn Hatfield that 'of the 1 million long-term unemployed, probably half can be termed layabouts' recorded in the Official Report of 27th April, Volume 223, column 838; regrets that the Secretary of State for Employment has not seen fit to rebut this slur on those put out of work by her Government; and calls for it to be rebutted or withdrawn at the earliest opportunity.
