CONSERVATIVE MEPS AND THE EUROPEAN PEOPLE'S PARTY

Motion Text

That this House notes with concern the links between the Conservative MEP Daniel Hannan and Paul Belien and his wife Alexandra Colen, a member of the Belgian Parliament for the far right Vlaams Belang party and for its predecessor Vlaams Blok; further notes that Vlaams Blok was condemned by the highest court in Belgium for its racist policies and was founded by those determined to secure a general amnesty for veterans of the SS; further notes that the hon. Member for Witney the Leader of Her Majesty's Opposition intends to withdraw his MEPs from membership of the European People's Party in the European Parliament; believes this will either lead to Conservative MEPs' complete isolation or to them teaming up with similar far right groups; and calls on the hon. Member for Witney to disassociate himself from the actions and allies of Daniel Hannan MEP.
