COUNCIL TAX AND THE LOCAL ELECTIONS

Motion Text

That this House notes the complete failure of the Conservative Party's local election campaign and, in particular, its discredited attempt to use inter-authority comparisons of council tax bands, which figures are, by their nature, distorted by the distribution of property types within each area; and expresses its congratulations to the British electorate, which saw through these distortions, and recognised that on the only true comparison of council tax between authorities, the average tax paid in Labour authorities is ú478, in Tory authorities is ú515 and in Liberal Democrat authorities is ú528, proving beyond doubt the Labour councils give both greater quality and efficiency of service provision.
