Motion Text

That this House celebrates Howe of Fife Rugby Football Club on its decision to name the main stand at Duffus Park The Dave Rollo Stand in honour of one of Scotland's most distinguished rugby players and devoted club players; recognises the outstanding contribution made by Dave Rollo to Howe of Fife, Scottish rugby and the wider game over more than seven decades; notes that he first played for Howe of Fife in 1953, at the age of 19, in what remarkably was his first-ever game of rugby; further notes that he went on to become one of Scotland's finest prop forwards, earning 40 caps for Scotland between 1959 and 1968 while remaining a Howe of Fife player throughout his international career, and touring South Africa with the British and Irish Lions in 1962; acknowledges his role in Scotland's famous 0-0 draw against New Zealand in 1964, denying the All Blacks a Grand Slam tour; commends his lifelong loyalty to his home club and the values of friendship, community spirit and service that he has embodied; further recognises the inspiration he continues to provide to successive generations of players and supporters; welcomes the celebration of his achievements through the naming of the stand from which he has watched and supported the club for many years; and wishes Dave Rollo, now aged 92, every happiness as Howe of Fife and the wider rugby community celebrate his remarkable legacy and enduring contribution to the sport.
