DEATHS OF REFUGEES AT SEA

That this House is horrified at the loss of nearly 300 lives at sea off Greece during Christmas 1996; is appalled at the plight of people seeking asylum in Europe and the increasingly draconian measures taken by EU member states against ayslum seekers in lieu of addressing the issues of human and economic rights; and applauds the comments of Tony Bullimore in seeking a humanitarian approach to all people in peril at sea and the Observer for exposing this tragic story.
