EASTER WEEKEND LAKES LINE CANCELLATION

Motion Text

That this House notes that Easter is one of the busiest seasons for tourism in the Lake District; further notes that the Lake District is the country's second most popular tourist destination bringing in £2.7 billion a year; recognises that a significant number of tourists access the Lake District via public transport; further recognises that the Lakes Line is the only rail line that runs into the heart of the Lake District; condemns Northern Rail's decision to close the line over the Easter weekend on 20 and 21 April; observes that this decision will cause significant losses to local businesses; and calls on the Government to take action immediately to reverse this decision.
