FOURTEENTH CENTENARY OF ARRIVAL OF ST AUGUSTINE

Motion Text

That this House believes that the arrival of St. Augustine and his fellow monks to convert the English to Christianity can be seen as one of the most significant events in the history of the nation, since there derives from it much of the origins of the national religion, literature, learning, art, music, architecture, agriculture and horticulture, and the monuments of these activities; and calls for the Post Office to issue a set of stamps to commemorate and give prominence to the fourteenth centenary of the arrival of St. Augustine in Kent in AD 597.
