GAS PRICES AND THE WINTER FUEL PAYMENT

Motion Text

That this House notes the decision taken by British Gas to increase gas prices by 14 per cent.; further notes that other suppliers are increasing their prices and that this decision comes after two previous increases during 2004 alone; and calls on the Chancellor of the Exchequer to increase the winter fuel payment to the elderly in order to cater for this latest increase in gas prices and to extend the payment to those who are severely disabled in order that they can afford their heating bills.
