LONDON'S HOMELESS

Motion Text

That this House notes with horror the fact that 2,000 homeless people are forced to sleep on the streets of London, 18,000 live in hostels, and thousands more live in bed and breakfast hotels; further notes that the building programme of local authorities has ground to a halt and many housing associations do not have the houses to meet the demand of affordable rented property; believes that the 22 million square feet of empty office blocks in London is an insult to the homeless; and accordingly calls upon Her Majesty's Government to institute a full building programme for houses for rent to end the scandal of homelessness.
